There is no doubt that the growth of Niseko as a tourism destination has been pretty amazing and crazy to watch over the last 9 years.
My first experience in Niseko could only be described as organised chaos after seeing how the established tourism resorts in Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand operate.
Today Niseko is a little different and there is always the argument that it was better 5, 10 or 15 years ago. Maybe it was, but what can you do?
Go to another snow destination, back to Whistler and see how they are going getting ready for the 2010 Winter Olympics, ring any bells?
Maybe you could check out Vail or another American/Canadian snow resort? Good luck with exchange rates!
So what is left, either don’t go on your next snow trip or accept progression and help the organisation that is working towards making Niseko a long term year round sustainable tourism destination, that would have been the logical answer, enter the Niseko Tourism Board.
Formed in 2007 the Niseko Tourism Board goal is to promote the Niseko area as one. Like any governing tourism organisation this is a difficult situation to be in. A constent need to be pleasing the local business sector (financial interest) and the target market, that’s YOU (emotional interest). A volatile combination in any industry.
So we ask you to please support the Niseko Tourism Board, visit and use their website, follow them on twitter give them some love for the work they do to make Niseko a sustainable destination for you and future generations!
